Abstract
The study investigated awareness and utilization of electronic information resources for research output of academic librarians at Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University, Makurdi, Benue State, Nigeria. The study was guided by three objectives and three research questions. Thestudy adopted descriptive survey research design with a population of 54 academic librarians at Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University, Makurdi. The entire population was used as sample size as it was small and manageable. The instrument for data collection was a questionnaire structured and designed by the researchers and titled Questionnaire on Awareness and Utilization of Electronic Information Resources for Research Output of Academic Librarians (QAUEIRROAL). The questionnaire was distributed by the researchers and one research assistant within the university for easy retrieval. Out of the 54 copies of questionnaire distributed, 46 copies were retrieved and certified suitable for the study. Data collected was then analyzed using Mean and Standard Deviation and presented in tables. The finding revealed that academic librarians at Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University, Makurdi, Benue State, Nigeria are aware of the available electronic information resources and utilized these resources for research output to a high extent. The study discovered that there are challenges encountered by academic librarians in the utilization of electronic information resources at Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University, Makurdi, Benue State, Nigeria. The study however recommended that the university management should create more awareness and ensure proper funding of the ICT department to encourage high level utilization of electronic information resources and that there should be training and retraining of academic librarians to create awareness and improve the utilization of electronic information resources at Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University, Makurdi, Benue State, Nigeria.
